- What it is: A detailed picture of your heart using magnets and radio waves (no radiation).
- What it does: Helps your doctor see your heart muscle, valves, and blood vessels.
- Why you might need it: Chest pain, heart failure, valve problems, or a heart condition you were born with.
- What to expect:
- Tell your doctor about any metal objects or allergies you have.
- Lie on a table inside a machine for about 1 hour. You may hear loud noises and need to hold your breath sometimes.
- May involve an IV line for contrast dye (not always).
